Wedding Receptions Cancelled Causing Chaos

More than two dozen Ulster couples have had their wedding dreams dashed after a local hotel pulled the plug on their plans for the big day.Ten Square in Belfast city centre, which had already accepted numerous wedding reservations for 2008, has cancelled all bookings from January 1 onwards. The hotel management say they made the drastic decision after complaints made by residents about loud noise coming from the first floor function room, which will now be closed and replaced by extra bedrooms. But 27 couples are now faced with finding another venue – or even cancelling their weddings altogether.Devastated bride-to-be Christine Moore (35) said she was at a loss about what to do.The Ballyclare civil servant and her fiancee had booked the venue for May 3, 2008, and was now facing the prospect of changing the date."I am just absolutely devastated at the moment," she explained. "We decided on May 3 because it was a bank holiday weekend and chose Ten Square because it was modern."I wanted a Sex And The City-type wedding and this was the perfect venue."I have spent the past day ringing around to try and get another venue but everything is booked that weekend. I am going to have to change the date."Christine and her fiancee – who booked the hotel six months ago and paid a £750 deposit – were offered Galgorm Manor near Ballymena as a replacement venue on Sunday, May 4, but declined."Galgorm is lovely but it’s not me," Christine explained. "I didn’t want a traditional wedding at a traditional venue."I even spoke to the wedding co-ordinator on Monday about moving the time forward by an hour and they called back on Monday and said that would be fine."Then I get a call at 3.10pm Tuesday saying they were cancelling my wedding. What could have happened between Monday and Tuesday? A decision like that is not made overnight."Ten Square took the drastic action following complaints about noise from other residents but for Christine this explanation is not good enough."I am going to have to rearrange everything now – the florists, string quartet, minister, DJ, band – everything. We fly out to Cuba for our honeymoon on May 6 and have organised leave. We will have to change that too."A spokesperson for Ten Square said the owners "apologise profusely for the terrible inconvenience" caused
